Our Legacy
Built on a Promise to Rural Students
BWDA Arts & Science College was established in June 2008 under the management of BWDA — the Bullock Cart Workers Development Association — an organization created to serve some of society's most underrepresented communities. The college was dedicated on 9 July 2008 by the late Rev. Dr. Gnana Robinson, patron of BWDA.
BWDA was registered on 2 October 1985 with a mission of selfless service to poor bullock cart workers, rural artisans, self-help group members, and children across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Over time, BWDA expanded its vision into higher education, recognizing that true social development cannot happen without access to quality learning.
Affiliated to Annamalai University and offering instruction in English, the college stands as a visible commitment to educational equity — where no student is turned away due to economic circumstances. It is one of the few institutions in the Villupuram district that actively ensures first-generation learners can access higher education with full dignity.

BWDA was founded with a singular conviction — that no deserving student from a rural background should be denied higher education because of economic barriers. Every step we have taken as an institution reflects this promise.
Education must remain a right, not a privilege. The founding vision of this institution was never limited to granting degrees alone. It was built around the conviction that education should help young people make sound decisions, live with integrity, and become contributors within their families and communities.
Right decisions at the right time shape character and attitude. We encourage our students to see learning not merely as an academic exercise, but as a moral responsibility toward themselves and those around them. This college will always stand as a place where aspiration is honoured and effort is never wasted.
As we look toward the future, we remain anchored to our founding purpose. The students who come from villages, from farming families, from households where education was never taken for granted — they are our greatest inspiration. For them, every brick of this institution was laid with care.

Located in Kolliyangunam, Mailam, Villupuram District, the 13.23-acre campus is designed to support focused academic work and student wellbeing. The setting combines classrooms, laboratories, a library, seminar halls, sports grounds, and accommodation facilities within a calm, green landscape.
